Honoring Simple Wins
Wow has life been a little tough lately. Today is Wednesday, and I feel like it’s supposed to be Saturday morning. This past week has been rough. I think the dust has settled around our situation and things have just become a bit more real, grim, and unpredictable. Not to mention, (for most of us) we’re sharing these moments veeeery closely with others.
Being around someone 24/7–be it your significant other, roommate(s), children, parents, grandparents, what have you–is such a gift. However MAN does it have its painstaking moments. I think this topic needs its own attention in the form of a whole post–so I won’t go too in depth just yet. Long story short, the stress of a pandemic, shattered economy, lack of job security, and being quarantined together has brought Jackson and I to new territory in our relationship. I’m grateful for what I’m learning, however each moment as it comes can be somewhat difficult to navigate.
These tougher moments are what has inspired me to write and honor the simple, yet amazing moments.
This brings me to the topic of this post–honoring the simple wins. After what has proven to be a rather taxing week (complete with a weekend that totally didn’t feel like a weekend), I want to share some smaller moments that brought me immense joy recently.
This week we ordered a few bottles of our favorite pinot and it arrived today. I’m so excited to pop it open tonight and use our favorite glasses for a casual–yet special–evening. I’m also keeping our bar cart fully stocked with all the essentials–you never know when a margarita craving will kick in! Plus, it makes me so happy to look over and see our favorite aperitifs and objects–it bring such simple delight.
I’ve been burning candles in our apartment pretty much 24/7 these days. I love candles–they make me happy and add a warmth to our space that is simply irreplaceable. I’m trying a new scent this week and could not be more excited.
We’re rediscovering our backyard. It’s a small, shared backyard with other tenants in our building so we’ve previously not spent that much time out there. However the other day we took a bottle of wine, a blanket and a few pillows and laid out in the sun for a few minutes. It was short but so sweet and I can’t wait till it starts warming up in the mornings so we can enjoy our coffee out there.
I’m trying to be super thrifty with our groceries and particularly fresh produce these days. The other morning I created this smoothie recipe and it has become an instant favorite. I wake up craving it!
Due to now needing to work from home for an extended amount of time–I set up a new desk area for myself in our living room. I love it, and seeing it everyday actually brings me so much joy–I think because I used pieces that I love in our apartment as opposed to making a random panic purchase. It just goes to show–when you purchase fewer things that you truly adore–they’ll go a long way.
This little area in our living room is also getting a lot of love recently. I never thought that I would love this table more…until I moved it into the corner! I think we’ll keep some of our favorite books here mostly, along with a super large bouquet.
I’ve also been making playlists! With the help of a few friends, I think we’ve got just the perfect playlist for an evening in and one to help motivate you during the day-to-day. I love putting them on, lighting a candle, and easing into the perfect evening.
