Fall Breathes Newness to the Soul
Greetings.
Now it being October, I feel more ready to chat about fall. Here in San Francisco, we have our beloved (by some) Indian Summer, which seeps the city with 80º degree, sunshine-filled days. It makes feeling fall-ready all that much harder, as we’re finally getting to enjoy the true summer that the rest of the country had a few months ago.
Yet as we glide into October, I think our city (and weather) are ready for the change. For the most part, I took the summer off from creating personal content. There was no particular reason, it just sort of happened — as life does. There is something about the changing of seasons that gets me into a retrospective mindset, craving the ability to catalogue events and changes as they happen. That was really one of the main reasons I wanted to start this blog - to catalogue and make even the most ordinary moments memorable, and beautiful.
The fall in particular is a season filled with so much beauty. As darker evenings begin earlier and earlier, focus starts to shift a bit inward and we begin to spend more time in the home and with loved ones over the holidays. The season’s fare becomes hearty, focused on sustainable nourishment to help our bodies prepare for colder months. I love cooking in the fall, there really are no rules and that is what makes it so much fun.
I think we all go through a bit of a seasonal revival, especially when it comes to clothes. Fall is such a pivotal moment for style. It breathes newness into almost every element of style - and revitalizes past trends with such a new outlook. I always add a few new pieces to my wardrobe during the fall that are so different to those I have historically gravitated to. I love that, because it encourages me to make changes and welcome in newness.
A few fall traditions, and things I’m looking forward to
Enjoying our new furniture (we just made a few major updates in our home, can’t wait to show you too!)
Walks with Millie when the leaves start to change color.
Crisp, fresh fall air.
Hopefully a little rain here and there!
Soup season! I’m going to get into soup-ing and make a batch on the weekends for the week.
Fall baking. I really want to get out ahead of the Thanksgiving mad-dash and practice a few tarts, cakes and pie recipes.
Going to try a new granola recipe (oats, fresh grated ginger, fall spices, slivered almonds, vanilla, chia seeds).
Trips to the farmers market for all the fall seasonals!
Nights in.
Fall candles.
Dried florals around the house.
Chunky cozy sweaters.
New jeans! (I’m in the market and now is the time)
Wine and cheese nights with the gals.
