A Jaunt Along the Coast: Alamere Falls
One of the many great things about living in California: you can be outdoors basically all year long. Recently - in the dead of “winter” we hiked to Alamere Falls. It’s a great escape just north of the city. The drive there isn’t for the faint of heart if you fall victim to car sickness - but the views make it completely worth it. Part of the drive takes you through the town of Stinson - which has a few great little organic markets to stop at and grab a few bites for a picnic.
We set off a little later in the day - around 2PM and made the round trip hike in a little over two hours. It's a total of about 8.5 miles and varys in its intensity but is classified as an intermediate level hike. It's an out and back trip with captivating ocean views. Hint: there is a small shortcut that takes you directly to the falls by way of a tree-lined path - don’t miss the sign!
I love finding “do-able” hikes that can be challenging and yet totally energizing and stimulating both physically and visually. It’s incredibly important to break out of your physical routine and mix in a few different activities. When it comes to working out - I love it, it’s a part of my day that helps me think more clearly and stay motivated. Instead of making a working something that is just a task to cross off the to-do list, hiking tends to be more meditative. Yes the muscles get a workout and the calories get burned, but you’re also taking in views you’ve never seen before - perhaps (if you’re with someone else) having great conversation, or are completely at one with yourself.
