Le Weekend | No. 2
This weekend I spent in a bit of a work hole. I’m super excited to be wrapping up some exciting endeavors, and beginning some new projects. That said, I had to be a bit of a hermit and crank out some work while I had the extra time.
On that note, working on weekends is an interesting and often debated topic. I’m one to rally for work/life balance and complete separation from work on weekends. However its incredibly challenging to live by that when you’re taking on more projects or are working for yourself. In the past, weekends have always been “personal” time that I use to nourish myself with activities and time that will help prepare me for the week ahead. This is usually anything from taking time outside for a walk, going to the farmers market or going out for drinks/dinner with friends. (Or sometimes, sitting at home on my sofa and doing nothing - which is my literal favorite thing to do always).
I’m not a believer of the, “I’m OOO this weekend” phrase. Its the weekend - nobody should be in the office. Thats not to say you can’t work on weekends - everyone does because we’re all busy and productive humans. But I’m a big advocate for putting yourself first - and giving yourself moments during those work-heavy weekends for personal care and nourishment.
Get rest, go outside and stand in the sunshine. Cook yourself something that you normally wouldn’t have time for during the week.
I find that the more self-giving I am on the weekends, the more aware, present and stimulated I am during the week. This weekend was a bit of an exception for me - I’ve been trying to catch up and get ahead of a few things in life lately and that requires a bit of heads down working time that bleeds into my personal time.
This week I’m burning the candle at both ends I’m afraid. After working all day on Saturday I was able to get out of the house and stop by the farmers market to pick up our weekly fresh produce. We stopped by our favorite bread stand and grabbed a Spelt loaf, which I can’t wait to make toast with this week. Afterwards, my Sunday consisted of laundry, meal prep and some more work in the evening.
I ended the weekend with three new books and a giant glass of well deserved rosé. I’m delving into these books for inspiration for a ton of upcoming editorial projects.
No matter how much we’re cranking and putting petal to the metal - its always 100% worth taking a few moments to ourselves. Go for a walk, read a book, eat the prosciutto wrapped melon. Just do something for you.
