My Morning Routine: Hydrate

Lemons are my love story.

I’m a creature of habit. Every morning I wake up and generally always do the same thing. I believe it's a always good to get yourself off on a good note in the morning, whether this means getting your body moving, hydrating or mediating. For me, this means waking up and nourishing myself with the best possible ingredients.

Every morning I have a glass of hot lemon water to kickstart my system. I love that its a burst of flavor both hydrating and delicious. I’ll often mix in freshly chopped and crushed ginger for a little immune system boost. Even if I’m in a rush to get out the door in the morning, I always try to sip this as I’m getting ready or even in my to-go cup if I’m really in a bind. That said, I hate leaving the house without eating breakfast so that's fairly rare for me. There is no secret to this recipe, it's super straightforward. Just boil water on the stove and then slice and organic lemon and squeeze. Presto!

You can also do this drink after your morning meal. It's a great way to kickstart your system, but also a healthy way to help your body digest food. The acidity of the lemon can help break down fats in your body as you’re digesting. And hot water is a great natural healer- also helping you to feel full and balanced at the start of your day.

You can also take this up a notch or two.

Some folks I know mix in cayenne pepper, collagen peptides, or even oregano oil when they’re feeling under the weather.
