Recent Style Musings From NYC

People watching is one of my favorite hobbies. I love people watching because I get so much inspiration from just observing the way others go about their everyday. I always get so much style inspiration from people watching–it’s my favorite way to learn and observe trends IRL.

After coming back from our recent trip to New York–I was so inspired and interested in some of the “trends” I saw. I quote trends because maybe some of these might seem old, or random. But either way, I want to talk about a few things that struck me both as inspirational and as maybe a little meh.

Sneakers seem to be the GOAT
So this makes me happy, as a woman who walks and wants to be stylish–I’m glad that sneakers are here to stay. However this isn’t something new. We’ve seen this for years, which is what makes it less of a trend and more of an eternal look. One thing that I’m loving right now is how sneakers are being paired with different elements of an outfit. I saw sneakers with sack or a-line dresses, jean skirts with a breezy button-up, wide-leg denim or white linen.

Baggy is back
This is kind of a relief to me as I’ve always loved the baggy look. Maybe a more elegant way to say this is “slouch” is in. A baggy shirt paired with wide-leg pants or even a boxy sweater over straight leg jeans. None of this is groundbreaking–however I love this trend as it seems to be happening in parallel with the “bigger is better” trend. Slouchy, large pieces are becoming a new alternative to the “all tight everything, streamlined” look.

Dainty Straps
So this definitely correlates with the heat of the summer, but I think dainty straps will keep having a moment next season. I’m seeing a ton of beautifully constructed clothing (meaning luxurious fabrics, well stitched with fabulous forms) accented with little delicate straps. I love this look on dresses, summery tops and tanks. It just created an instant elevated look for even the simplest of pieces.
