The Summer Table
Everything about the summer table is simple. Summer is about getting into nature and embracing natural forms, textures and colors. I take this sentiment into careful consideration as I plan my summer table. I love starting with a simple base, and then layering on ever-so-subtle touches to create a welcoming, open and airy tablescape. There’s something slightly “undone” about the summer table that I love. Its like a nod to the idea of imperfection being suitable for this season in the most natural way. Wrinkled tablecloth? Let’s bunch it up a bit and go with it! Mismatched plates? Just go with it. Uneven seating? Pull up a stool. I love the forgiving nature of the summer table. Folks have had long fun-soaked days out in the summer heat and are drawn to a simple gathering.

And now to the good part…
Start with earthy neutrals
I always like beginning the design of the summer table with earthy neutrals. This creates the perfect base upon which to continue building more saturated hues and textures to create visual interest.

Go with whats in season
My favorite decor for a summer table is produce and florals/greenery. I always opt for whatever is in season and available at the farmers market. I usually try to peruse the farmers market the morning of my gathering and just go with whatever draws me in and inspires me.
Seasonal favorites
artichoke, stone fruit, basil, mint
Add an element of warmth
I love to add in a solid earthy element such as a large vintage wood cutting board to add depth and warmth to the summer table. This will add contrast to the existing neutral base and earthy decor.

Sprinkle details of delight
These could be your favorite crystal glasses or even a vintage ice bucket. Think of something that brings you immense joy right now and adorn it on your summer table.
