The Vibe–November '22
Colder, shorter and more meaningful days ahead.
While daylight savings is so hard for a multitude of reasons–I love finding the positive in its somewhat arbitrary existence. I find that as it gets colder and darker–it falls onto us to inject more meaning into our shorter days. Even the simplest of little rituals can create a large impact during this time of year.
As a sufferer of general anxiety all year round, this time of year can be particularly tough. Sometimes it feels like the limited daylight weighs heavy, condensing my time and energy into just a few short hours during the day.
So this year I’m taking it upon myself to complete a few little rituals to help inject purpose, happiness and pure joy into these fleeting dark days. For now, my rituals are around health and wellness. I’m making it a priority to get my steps in each day–getting out and walking with my ankle weights has just been so rewarding for my mind, body and soul. Not to mention–it feels so good each day when I reach my step goal. It might seem small, but it’s something I’m incredibly proud of. I’m also trying to take better care of my skin and gut. I love my little (almost) daily ritual of bone broth in the colder afternoons–it feels like a warm hug that I didn’t know I needed. in prep for our wedding, I’m treating myself to facials every 6 weeks leading up to the day. I cannot tell you how AMAZING my skin feels. I can’t believe I slept on facials for this long. I see Angelina at Isabelle McLeod and she is truly a magician.
I saw this concept on Tiktok of “night cleansing” – weird term, but it essentially refers to the art of tidying up for the “morning shift” in your home. Meaning, the night shift is meant to make the early shift easier, and part of that is tidying up, prepping and making sure mornings can flow smoothly. This is all another way of saying that I’m trying to not be a lazy slob in the evenings and go to bed with dishes in the sink, our sofa a mess, and crap all over our apartment. Waking up to a clean and clear space just allows for more positive, fresh energy to flow into our home which I love. I’m a firm believer in space impacting mood/vibe and I’ll do anything to enter into a new day on the best note possible.
With these little rituals in mind, I’m entering into the wintering season. I’ve mentioned this once or twice before on instagram but I’m really focused on our wedding in April. I want to stay present and be mindful of the holidays and what not, but truly my heart and mind is elsewhere. So its likely that I won’t be creating as much seasonal content this year as I normally would. I also could be wrong, but I feel like the current climate is so “shoving christmas down our throats” that veering in a different direction feels more natural to me anyway.
On another note, I’m excited for the season of wintering. Wintering to me just means nesting–staying home, focusing on your self, and being mindful of what/who is drawing your energy. The idea being, if you take care of yourself during winter–you’ll enter into spring anew, fresh and ready for a bounty of fullness. Sounds pretty good to me…
A few small things of note lately
I finally published the hutch styling blog!
I’ve been eyeing a few pieces for fall here.
I’m opening up to more clients for freelance design work! Check out more of my offerings and inquire here.
Finally swapped our kitchen blinds for a cottage-inspired linen tie shade and I’m in love. It adds the perfect homey kitchen quality! Linked my items and similars here.
It’s Nouveau season at Scribe again (my fave!) get em while they’re hot! I loved serving this at Thanksgiving last year.
