My Spring Candle Trove

DSC_0013.JPG

Each spring, I love reinventing elements of our home. Scent plays a huge role in setting a mood and tone. I love that home scents can change with each season, day, or even mood. There are some scents that spark immense joy for me that I reserve for certain parts of the year.

When it comes to candles, I have a few that are tried and true–honest old-faithfuls. They tend to be my go-to’s and are on rotation during different seasons. Spring, in particular marks a moment of change and rebirth–so I always find it fitting to choose scents that reflect this movement.

Subtle, fresh, floral, light citrus, airy, earthy.

I love for my floral home scents to contain all of these elements. I tend to gravitate towards scents that are lightly floral with an earthy undertone. I don’t like anything too heavy or “on the nose” floral. Those tend to be heavier and better suited for traditional tastes.

Roses
Diptique

Roses is my all-time favorite scent for any season. I wear the perfume version as well–that’s how much I love it. This scent is special to me because I actually discovered it in Paris when I was studying there in 2015. I had never owned Diptique before, and my friends and I stumbled into one of their perfumeries after a wine-soaked lunch. The sales associate suggested this scent to me and gave me a few samples to try. Immediately I was in love. A few days later I ran back to the store to buy a full-sized bottle. It’s been my signature scent ever since!

Roses isn’t you’re grandma’s roses. It’s not heavy, or overly velvety-floral. It’s in the lighter camp and has a crispness like that of a rose garden on a warm summer morning. I find this scent to be the most natural and it feels like I’m sticking my head in a giant fresh-cut bouquet. I keep roses primarily in our kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Basil
Jenni Kayne

I only recently discovered Basil and fell in love upon the first whiff. If I could dream up a scent to keep solely for outdoor entertaining, this would be it. Something about it reminds me of a garden party on a stunning spring afternoon.

Basil has the sweetness of a floral garden mixed with the earthy tones of fresh herbs. It’s like a breath of fresh air. Not overly sweet at all–nor musky or heavy. I keep Basil in our kitchen and always light it when we’re entertaining. Often I’ll keep one on my desk–and light it when I need a gust of fresh energy throughout the day.

Cyrnos
Cire Trudon

Let me first start off by saying…yes, this candle is worth the price. I know that over $100 for a candle is insane–however the burn time is amazing, and their scent is truly unlike any other. I shop mine at Jayson Home which often has sales and I can nab this beauty for 20% off! Cire Trudon is one of the oldest candlemakers still in production–which creates a special story. I reserve this candle for special evenings/days in during the spring and summer. It turns the perfect happy hour or daytime festivity into an aroma overload (in a good way).

Cyrnos is reminiscent of the summery scents of the Mediterranean. Lime, hints of fig, and lavender shine through the most for me. I keep this candle in our living room and sometimes move it into our bedroom for a little elegant upleveling.

Lime Basil & Mandarin
Jo Malone

Such a friendly scent. I’ve never met a larger crowd-pleaser. This refreshing scent is one of my absolute favorite kitchen scents. I adore lighting it after I’ve freshly cleaned our kitchen on the weekends or after dinner. It’s the perfect combination of clean, light and airy.

Citrus hits first on this scent–but not in the cleaning supplies kind of way. More like the sensation when you twist the skin of a lime over a cocktail to get the aroma into the glass. Undertones are on the sweeter side, so if you’re not into sweet smells–maybe skip this one.

Lyls
Diptique

Lyls (Lillies) is simply stunning. If you’re into florals, this is your scent. It reminds me of freshly blooming lilies on a warm, breezy day. I keep this candle in our living room and light it during the daytime hours when I’m either working or bustling around. It keeps me happy and transports me right to my grandma’s garden.

A heavier fragrance that quite literally bottles the smell of fresh lily petals.

Jasmin
Diptique

Jasmin is one of my desert island candles. I almost love it nearly as much as Roses. I’m naturally drawn to the scent of jasmin in all forms. I find it sweet, refreshing, and overwhelmingly feminine. I keep this candle circulating around our home–however, it primarily lives in our bedroom. I love waking up, opening a window, and lighting this candle. It’s the ultimate mood-booster on a sunny spring morning.

Notes of jasmin are heavy, a honey aroma meets the fresh leaves of the jasmin plant to spark absolute magic.
