Finding Beauty in the Familiar
I’ve taken this walk hundreds of times. It’s near my house. I love that it’s familiar. It’s been a favorite of mine for a long time for so many reasons. And yet today, as I slowly walked along the tree-lined path near the park, I fell more in love with it.
Living near the ocean in San Francisco definitely has its perks. Nearly everyday the marine fog will roll in – causing the sun to disappear in the late afternoon for a few hours. Seagulls dance between the shore and the bay, chasing whatever they can find. Cliffs are crashed against by waves, each time coming back a bit higher than the last touch.
Colors come alive here simply by juxtaposition.
Crisp blue-greens play with warm terracotta crimsons. Cypress greens glitter the hillsides while warm a beige-hue hugs the sandy shores. In springtime, the hillsides around the bay turn a beautiful green – allowing the beautiful architecture of the area a moment to shine against it. I’ve taken this walk for granted as we do with so many familiar things in life. However, today I stopped and watched the beautiful scenery as it took by breath away. As the pacific winds gently kissed the cypress trees, I stared off into the distance until by eyes went blurry as though in an impressionist painting.
