Slow and Misty Summer Mornings
I love taking a slower, more conscious approach to my mornings in the summer. Living in San Francisco by the water we get a deep, heavy, misty fog most mornings during the summer months. I used to loathe the fog–I thought it was such a damper. However I’ve actually grown to love it’s calming atmosphere. You can’t be a true Northern Californian without a little love for heavy coastline fog.
It’s during these moments that I develop such a deep love and admiration for slowness. I wake each morning feeling a bit uneasy. I’m not sure why, but I’ve never been one to wake up and feel completely normal. It takes my body a bit of time to adjust and come into being again. I’m also not a morning person. So celebrating the slow moments in the mornings is coming a long way for me!
Here is the thing about San Francisco fog–It’s romantic, refreshing, calming and all enchanting. The way it settles over the cypress trees that hug the coastline is so beautiful to me. I simply adore getting to stare out of our living room window watching the fog move over the bay each morning. During the summer months especially, the fog is a bit denser and full of water–usually trailing a few sprinkles here and there in its wake. This always leaves such a fresh wash over the city–especially closer to the coastline.
Each morning when it’s locked in foggy, I wake up, light a few candles, brew the morning coffee and sit in our living room enamored by the light that fills the room. Here are a few captures from this mornings musings during the early hours of dewy fog.
