Our Kitchen Details
We spend so much time in our kitchen, it always turns into the center of any gathering and I love it.
I also want it to feel open, inviting and practically functional because I use it everyday. This summer, I did a little restyling of the countertops of our kitchen, and really re-evaluated exactly what we need on the counters day-to-day (spoiler alert, it’s not that much!)
Creating little moments of style in each room in our home is so important to me. I think that each room of your home should have sparks of personality. I love combining pieces that I’ve collected over the years and making little vignettes in each corner.
Our kitchen is also a space for easy practicality. We cook almost every night, and I need ample counter space (and in an SF apartment, that is sometimes hard to come by).
One of my favorite feelings — almost ever — is waking up to a clean, sparkling kitchen. I think that it’s such a symbol of a fresh day. Each morning, I like to walk into our kitchen feeling invigorated and inspired. The kitchen is where I usually feel the most raw and myself, and like to keep it neat and tidy.
I used to keep a huge stack of books in this corner, however I weeded through them and realized that there are a handful that I use regularly. So I reorganized our kitchen shelf to make room for them there, and only kept the few that I use the most often. Also, have you read Cook Beautiful? It’s SO inspiring and I love Athena’s approach to easy, wholesome cooking. Love her!
Each week I try to buy fresh flowers for our home. They bring such a sense of life and beauty into the space and they really just make me happy! In the kitchen, I like to stick to buds that offer a pop of subtle neutral color or lush greenery.
I can’t wait until one day when we have a slightly larger kitchen with more counter space and storage, but in the meantime I love our little kitchen now. It has everything I need, and I am so happy each and every time I’m in it. You can shop a few of the pieces from our kitchen below!
