Give me allllll the neutrals

Fall brings such a gust of fresh style. It’s so revitalizing and inspiring - I love remixing wardrobe staples with new enthusiasm each season. If you know me, you know that I’m a neutral lover who covets a good gray sweater or pearl white mockneck.

One of the biggest trends I’m seeing right now is neutral-on-neutral. It’s taken Cos by storm and made its way into a bunch of fall looks.

I recently took a gander at H&M and much to my surprise they’re stocked in some great neutral basics. I’m always a bit weary of their quality - however you just have to hunt a bit to find the right pieces that are made better. I’ve been wanting to incorporate more skirts into my daily rotation but haven’t quite been able to find the right ones - either they’re too long, too tight, or make me look like a 1950’s school teacher.

I found this rib-knit skirt and thought it was a must-try. First, you can’t really beat that price-point, and second - it’s rare you’ll find a button-slit style at retailers like H&M. It’s a lovely piece, and fits really well. I actually love the material, as I’m sensitive to wool mixes, this fabric is super soft and easy to wear. I paired it with this mockneck which is also super comfortable and fits perfectly true to size.

I’ll definitely be wearing this on repeat this fall. I love it paired with some easygoing slides like these, or even dressed up a bit more with a heeled boot.

I was a bit nervous about this outfit coming together, as I didn’t want look like a giant walking ace bandage, however the key to avoiding that tragic visual is upping your textures. Make sure that the neutrals you are drawn to have high-quality textures that can play well with each other. Pair slightly chunkier knits with fine woven pieces to create a higher contrast - therein avoiding the “all one fabric” type of look.

Don’t be afraid to add in a pop of statement when you’re going for an all-neutral-everything look. I love adding in a chunky earring or a sculptural bag such as this favorite of mine.
