Our Small Christmas At Home
With Christmas looking a bit different this year, I’m turning to the simple joys to make this holiday that much more special. We spent Christmas at home–dining around our small coffee table, with a 6-hour ragu and beautiful bottle of cab–it was lovely.
It goes without saying that this Christmas was much different than years past (but I’m saying it anyway).
I didn’t really plan anything too special for Christmas this year. Traditionally, it’s an Austrian tradition to celebrate on Christmas Eve with a large family meal followed by the opening of presents with endless cocktails and cookies. I wanted to keep some of that alive for our more intimate version this year. I planned to make a simple ragu–and open a bottle of cabernet that we’d been saving. It was lovely.
To pay homage to the amazing tablescapes my grandmother adorns for our traditional Christmas eve–I pulled out the crystal wine glasses she passed down to me. They’re an amazing heirloom that I can’t wait to pass down to my kids. The elevate even the simplest tablescape and make me feel right at home.
Although we were just dining around our coffee table–I wanted to make it feel special and unique. I went for a subtle earthy/organic/chic vibe–with subtle notes of crystal, iron, jute, with hints of greenery peppered throughout. My goal was to be simple, practical and yet elevated. I lit a few candles on our new iron candle holders too.
For our meal, I made a simple beef ragu that was aaamazing. I cooked it all afternoon and it was utter perfection. I love a good ragu–it’s a meal that will always feel special to me and is so damn delish.
Our cocktail of choice was the espresso martini–they were SO good.
