On the Coast: Accents Inspired By the Pacific
Living on the west coast, we’re spoiled by visual splendors everywhere we look. In Northern California particularly, our coastlines offer such earthy, organic, nourishing inspiration. When I’m thinking about our home, I love bringing these elements into the design.
The west coast offers such a different take on design. When compared to its more traditional east coast cousin, the west coast spins modern, eclectic and contemporary accents together to create a space unique to its kind. Shibori, ikat, rattan, cane, marble, terracotta and teak are all common materials found in west coast design. These materials bring a modern yet earthy elements into the realm of airy, earthy, coastal.
When referencing modern interior designers, its impossible to not reference Studio McGee and Amber Interiors here. Their similar yet complementary styles have defined this, “west coast” approach to coastal. We see eclectic accents such as this stool, paired with saturated pillows and vintage rugs. Traditional coastal elements come in through curved lines in decorative objects such as bowls, vases and decorative accents. Eclectic beaded shells also tie into this style beautifully.
I love this style because it can be incorporated into your home somewhat effortlessly. Even just a few accent pieces such as a shibori pillow or eclectic natural stool can create such a coastal-inspired interior.
