Sunday Scheming 01
Welcome to a new little mini series featuring dreamed up designs inspired by iconic looks, trends, and concepts!
I’m never not making a moodboard. So I thought, why not turn it into a series?
A few Sunday’s a month, I’ll share moodboard designs featuring my vision based on a trend, iconic interior, or interesting concept. Sometimes they’ll be a little more abstract, other times it’ll be a concrete idea like this first one!
I’ve been obsessing over Kirsten Dunst’s home tour for AD. I adore her style and personality–she’s always been such a muse of mine. However her home is on another level! I love the quirky charm, layered over California-inspired casual classics. She has a beautiful way of weaving in conversation-starting pieces with effortlessly chic pops.
For my interpretation, a few things stood out to me that I know I needed: a good vibrant vintage rug, rustic wood (vintage) accents, and small decorative accents that feel collected, unique and one-of-a-kind.
I think this style should be called Euro-Pop Meets California. You’ll see European accents woven with classic American Traditional staples–all laid against a picturesque, airy California backdrop.
I love that you’ll find a slope arm sofa juxtaposed with a funky table lamp. Or a vintage French country console table propped with a sculptural mod-inspired mirror.
The use of color in this interior is also something to note. Based on an earthy base palette, color builds in poppy and playful ways through some of the accent furniture. I love this idea because it doesn’t feel too overwhelmingly neutral, nor does it feel like a color explosion. Rather, a tastefully curated approach to using color to create visual interest and contrast throughout the space.
Also something to note, this style isn’t something you can simply “buy off the shelf”. Meaning, It comes together through years of collecting and antique scouring. My selections reflect this, and while I did pull a few mainstream pieces from known sources, I also layered in a few one-of-a-kind gems in there. Okay, now for the exciting part!
