Up To Lately - Summer's Full Bloom

DSC_1561.jpg

I hate saying “the end of summer”– it makes me feel so melancholic. I get rather anxious as the pressure of seasonal change trickles in. Working in interior design marketing, it’s hard to not always be looking ahead–but in my personal life I really try to stay present as best I can.

I realize I haven’t done a somewhat “personal” post in quite some time! Something about today, sharing a few personal tid-bits and updates just felt natural, so here we go. Also, part of starting this blog was to commemorate and celebrate life’s little moments!

Travel

This summer has really flown by (cliché I know, sorry). The beginning of summer felt much like a mad-dash to make up for missed gatherings and travel as the world started to open up again. We finally flew to the midwest to see Jackson’s family at their lakehouse, and we brought Millie–which made the whole trip, traveling with her and having our whole family together was so amazing. We attended a few weddings, which you’d think would help kickstart our own planning but we haven’t made a huge amount of progress there. We haven’t done too much personal travel ourselves, mainly just to see my parents in the east bay every few weeks which has been such a treat as well. I do want to start planning a proper vacation soon–Santa Barbara is on my list!

Wedding

We have however started planning our engagement party! I’m so excited to “slow roll” this whole planning process and make it more of a holistic and fun process rather than a list of to-do’s. The atmosphere of planning a wedding right now is tough. So many vendors, planners and spaces are so booked so far back that it’s a little overwhelming. I’ve taken that as a sign that it’s OK to sit back and enjoy this process–enjoy the inspiration phase and really getting in touch with what kind of event we both want.

I just discovered a few accounts that have gotten me inspired:

Home/Interior

To cure my wedding planning paralysis, I have been pulling the trigger on a few new home finds! We finally got a mirror to go above our sofa, this has been something I’ve been eyeing for YEARS now. I’m so excited that it’s finally here–it opens up the whole room so nicely. With labor day fast approaching I have a few other larger items, like our living room accent chair as well. I’m thinking of doing a post on a few things on my list for labor day to share, stay tuned!

Food

Aside from this amazing recipe, I haven’t done too much new cooking (so sad, I feel lame just writing that) but I haven’t been in my usual swing of going to the farmers market on Sundays–that usually kickstarts my creative juices in the kitchen. I like to cook when I really feel like it–as opposed to looking at it from a point where I need to do it, but this is also a balancing act.

Wellbeing

I’ve started getting in to jump rope! I hated it at first, but after just 5 minutes I felt amazing after doing it. I can’t believe what a whole body workout it is. My goal is to try and do it a few times a week just to get my body moving more. I went to a few Barry’s classes, which was TERRIFYING to get back to, but I feel much better after dipping my toes back in. I used to go to Barry’s everyday for 2 years so taking a year plus off of that has totally changed my perspective on working out in general. I used to look at working out as a “must do” or as something that if I didn’t do, I would be a total failure. It took me a long time to realize that my relationship with working out was strained and somewhat toxic. It’s a journey, but I’m now trying to workout just simply to take care of my body, nourish it, and to feel good–as opposed to trying to get a certain result.

Noteworthy

Obsessed with this bag–I’m thinking I might need it to serve as my “designer on the go” bag, that I can collect samples in, carry my laptop/planner.

Just got these sunnies–I’m in love! Perfect fun shape that doesn’t feel too trendy but still on-trend if you know what I mean?

I finally got these new workout shoes! Love love love them, I was nervous at first but they’re the perfect amount of “big”. Size up, I got a 9 and I’m normally an 8!

This charming cookbook is seriously stunning! Ali creates such beautiful food that of course her cookbook is just as perfect.

Watching

We just finished White Lotus and I have a few thoughts. In general, it was good! Definitely worth the watch, however that music is so annoying.

Also watching Ted Lasso! Loving the good vibes in the show–the perfect feel-good weeknight necessity.

Mare of Easttown was AMAZING. We literally watched it in like 2 days–so good!
