Elevating Your Nightstand
The surroundings you wake up to should bring you immense joy.
I’ve recently started fine tuning our bedroom and scaling it down a bit. I’ve noticed that over the years, I’ve forgotten about our bedroom in terms of making it feel elevated and beautiful. It has just naturally become a “reject” room full of random odds and ends–none of which I’m particularly in love with.
Two pieces I do love however, are our new nightstands.
I’ve always been a believer that nightstands are pieces that you should hold near and dear to your heart. Being the first pieces of furniture you wake up to every morning, they should bring you immense joy and happiness. With that, I’m using our nightstands as the objects around which I’ll design the rest of the space. I love their curved shape and natural texture. They bring such an airy and delicate vibe into the space. Styling them is something that I’ve also grown to love–and is in fact super important to how you start and end your days.
Start by Paring Down
Refine the objects on your nightstand to just the bare minimum. For me, that means my favorite candle, sleep oil, and my eye mask. These should be the objects you use every night or morning that make you feel your best, and represent a ritual of either ending or starting a day.
Create a Coveted Area
This could mean adding a small bouquet of flowers or perhaps your favorite perfume. Whatever it is, these items should make you excited to see your nightstand–and should make it feel special and unique to you.
Hydration Station
I love having fresh water by my bed each evening. Something like this bedside carafe is the perfect receptacle for keeping your agua fresh and clean overnight.
Light For Your Mood
I found this lamp years ago and fell in love. It sadly came without a shade, and I’ve been struggling to find just the right one. However I FINALLY found one that I love that diffuses the light so perfectly. Your lighting should be an accent–a piece that helps refine the space but also stands out in a striking way.
