A Fall Floral Arrangement

I’m a gal about blooms. In order to call my house a home, flowers of all types are a must. I have a list of eternal favs, but its common that arrangements rotate seasonally in our house. I like to go with the seasons, weather and mood of the time when I select my flowers.

Usually I’ll have fresh flowers in our house every week. These get picked up on the weekends - usually on Fridays (in preparation for the weekend) and on Sundays (in preparation for the week ahead). I love picking up a few fresh blooms on Friday evening after work because its simply one of the best things to wake up to on Saturday morning.

I’ve been experimenting lately with different arrangement styles and floral varieties. Mostly my biggest challenge has been saying “no” at the flower shop because I always come home with way to many for how many vases I currently have. (I mean there is never anything wrong with too many flowers - one simply just needs to buy more vases!)

This fall has been about crisp whites (always for me) and deep greens and earth tones. I love breaking off my arrangement into smaller vases that I can pop on any surface throughout our apartment. This makes it feel a bit more special - having a burst of life and color in each room. I always avoid anything brightly colored or artificial.

There are a couple things I usually have in mind when selecting and curating my arrangements. I go for detailing - the more intricate and interesting the better. This gives a sculptural quality to the arrangement, and it therefore becomes a standout-accent piece of decor. And second, its important to determine where these specific blooms are going. Are they to be displayed together all in one bunch on a table? Or will they get broken up into smaller arrangements and displayed throughout a larger space? If so, it's important to add variety to your arrangement - too much of the same thing just ends up not saying anything while too little just looks like an afterthought.

For this arrangement, I wanted something specific and unique to the season. By rooting everything in a more earth-tone color palette, I was able to achieve that almost, “rustic and undone” fall look. And what a more perfect place for a simple, earthy bouquet to live than on our bar cart? It's the perfect space for an unexpected pop of seasonal bounty.
