April

A Letter From the Editor

Dearest,

Welcome to a new season - the season of Spring!

I can’t help but feel invigorated on the cusp of a season's beginning. The shift in the weather is probably the most inspiring element for me. There is a crisp yet warmly floral scent in the early mornings as I walk Millie through our neighborhood that makes me incredibly nostalgic for my childhood. This month, I’m excited to simply celebrate spring’s offerings. We began the month by hosting Easter with family at our apartment. Our home was flooded with fresh flowers, baked goods and mini quiche and I was simply in heaven. It made me feel like our apartment had turned into a local cafe for the day.

Another tradition I’m excited to bring back now that the weather is warmer is working from my favorite cafes around the city and up in Marin. Last month I was able to get out and spend the late morning working from Rustic Bakery up in Marin and completely loved it. After I was done, I felt as though I had taken my nervous system through the car wash. It felt fresh and invigorating to be in a new place - with the sun shining as I crossed simple tasks from my to-do list. I stopped by a new post office and spoke to the owner, we chatted about stamps and stationery. Afterwards, I popped into Hudson Grace to grab some of their beautiful tulips for our apartment before heading home. It was such a lovely little Tuesday that felt both indulgent and productive (truly the best of both worlds).

So as I welcome the month of April - I’m setting an intention to do things that strike the balance of productive, and indulgent. Because if we’re not enjoying the process, then what are we even doing? For me, this looks like cooking seasonal spring meals at home (instead of ordering out) yet using our favorite dishes, lighting the nice candles, and making sure we have on a fun playlist. While it may seem simple, I truly think these little elevations in the everyday are so impactful to our overall wellbeing. Late last month I took to Instagram and so many folks agreed (and lovingly supplied amazing ideas) for simple elevations in the everyday which I wrote about here

I’m so excited to share more of these moments in real time with you all over on the socials. If I could be known for just one thing it would be that my content is a simple celebration of the ordinary.

Have a beautiful month.

Xx,

Karina

The April MOOD

Theme

Showing up.

A simple theme, yet effective. I sometimes ask myself at the end of a month or long week, did I show up for myself the way I wanted to? It’s a question that forces me to think about how I’m living life, where my priorities are and what I’m spending my mental energy on.

Showing up to me means doing my best. It means committing to a higher version of myself than previous. It means constantly asking myself if I’m proud of who I am, what I’m doing and the energy I put out into the other world.

This was a practice I put to work as I was prepping for our wedding and has taught me so much about personal resilience and diligence. At the time, I was overwhelmed, run down and at my lowest low. However slowly, as I started asking myself these questions and adopting the mindset of simply showing up for myself and making that the overall priority, I started seeing changes in my mind, mood and overall wellbeing. With those subtle shifts, my creative vision started getting clearer.

As April begins, I’m honing in on a simple mission - to show up. Showing up to a weeknight dinner with the same enthusiasm as I would a dinner party with friends and put the same passion and intention into that meal. Showing up for my body by putting it first above work. Showing up everyday with inspiring yet organic content. Even if it's not perfect - even if the little videos and imagery I put out into the world everyday aren’t perfect, at least I’m showing up with the intention of growing.

On The Docket

Goings on, and on my mind.

I’m focusing on work for the beginning of the month. As spring weddings commence, I have a few clients who I’m working with on their day-of paper goods so I’m focusing a lot of energy there.

Towards the end of the month Jackson and I are heading up to wine country to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary! I’m so excited, and cannot wait to slip away and celebrate. What a year it has been - I feel like time sped way, way up after the wedding so I’m excited to slow down and celebrate it. We’re spending a weekend at the same place we got engaged–which we haven’t been back to since and I can’t wait.

On Sundays I want to get back to the farmers market in Fort Mason. I tend to go more in the summer and early fall as the bounty is so plentiful and the seasonal fare is just divine. Spring has some notable offerings so I’m planning my first trip back this month.

I’m planning a few mini refreshes around the apartment. I need to restyle the hutch and breathe some new life into its shelves - things are feeling a bit heavy and crowded. I also want to refresh our kitchen counters for the new season. Something about a seasonal countertop decor refresh feels fitting for spring. On that note, a good fridge deep clean is also on the horizon. Simple but so, so satisfying.
